The Summer Of Prayer 2010

Welcome!!

We are so thankful that you have chosen to be a part of The Summer Of Prayer 2010 Project.

What a blessing to see you visiting this blog!!!!!

Sara, the cheerleader puppet is excited too. She loves to cheer so she will be cheering you on.

She'll have some words of praise for you whenever you accomplish a new step.

You are beginning a journey to a closer walk with God by taking part in this study.

So let's begin!!

God gave us a pattern for prayer in the Bible. He taught the disciples how to pray and that's recorded in Luke 11:1-4 in your Bible. The disciples asks Jesus to teach them to pray and His pattern began with praise.

Listen to it or read it from your Bible

Our Father, Who art in heaven, holy is your name.

Now there is a praise!! You name is holy, God. We recognize that you are holy. Did you know that's why we bow our heads when we pray. By bowing our heads we are saying, "God, I know that you are holy and I am not." The book of Romans chapter 3 and verse 23, says that all have sinned. That includes you and me and every person on earth. Of course, Jesus is pure and holy and never sinned and He did walk this earth. But anyone else who has ever walked this earth is a sinner. Sin is anything we think, say or do that is against God's Word.

Sin is also the next subject in this example or pattern for prayer that Jesus gave to the disciples.

After mentioning that God's Kingdom and God's will are supreme (the highest) the disciples were taught to acknowledge or admit that they are not holy..

"Forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us."

What do you think this means? _______________________________________

Trespass means to go against the rules. If you go against the rules God has included in

the Bible, then you have trespassed or sinned. And what did we say sin is. Anything we ____.

say or ____ that is against God's Word. (That's where we find the rules; in God's book, God's Word the Bible.

This stuff is way too easy for you guys. You already knew all that, didn't you?

OK so the first two parts in the pattern for prayer are :

1. _____________________

2._____________________

Now part three is saying "thanks" to God. WOW! There are so many verses that tell us to be thankful. No wonder our country has devoted a day for "Thanksgiving". Colossians 4:2

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." That sounds like a command doesn't it?

So if we don't do that, we are breaking the rules of God's Word, aren't we. Ephesians 5:20

"Be thankful in everything..."

Ya mean, even if I got the bike from a garage sale and my brother and sister got theirs from the store. Even if mine has no paint on it.

Yes, be thankful. Psalm 100:4 says to be thankful and full of praise when entering into prayer.
